Updated Living Landscapes Fact Book for Fall

Backyarding, the trend to move many indoor activities outdoors, is now a permanent way of life. During the pandemic, learning to work, entertain, vacation, work out and more right in one’s own backyard, became a necessity—and people have discovered it’s often a better way to live.

Spending time outdoors in your own backyard and community green space is good for your health, happiness, and the environment, as the TurfMutt Foundation’s Living Landscapes Fact Book illustrates.

The Fact Book has just been updated for fall. Check it out here to learn about the benefits of your own backyard and our community green spaces, including:

  • Responses from nearly 800 adults from 42 different countries showed that frequency of contact with nature in childhood predicts certain aspects of adult personality, including higher levels of creative imagination and intellectual curiosity and lower levels of anxiety and depression.
  • A recent review of the literature examined the impact of schoolyard greening on children’s physical activity and socioemotional health. With few exceptions, most studies demonstrated beneficial changes on both outcomes due to greening.
