The TurfMutt Foundation is not only a big fan of backyards and public green spaces, it is also a big fan of rescue dogs. In fact, the TurfMutt spokesdog, Mutt Mulligan, is a rescue pup who was adopted at the annual Lucky’s Mutt Madness pet adoption event. (Isn’t that the cutest pic of Mo-Mo on her adoption day?)
This is why National Mutt Day – celebrated every July 31st and December 2nd – makes us as happy as a rescue dog getting a belly rub.
How are you celebrating National Mutt Day with your pooch this weekend? Here are a few suggestions from the TurfMutt Foundation:
Spruce up your yard with your pet in mind. Nobody loves your backyard as much as your dog. Learn how to create a doggie dream yard with these tips from TurfMutt.
Spend time together in green space. Spending time with you is the most important thing to your pup. Play fetch in your yard. Host a backyard doggie playdate with neighborhood fur friends. Take a walk in a favorite park. Try a new trail. There are so many things to see and sniff in the great outdoors – starting in your own backyard.
Help a pet in need. If your family is ready to add to its pack, visit the local shelter to find your new pup. You can also volunteer with a local rescue group or donate money to your favorite pet-centric organization.
