National Pollinators Month: How to Support Pollinators in Your Own Backyard

June is National Pollinators Month, making it a great time to celebrate by planting for pollinators and the planet. Pollinators are the rockstars of the family yard. Did you know that one out of every three bites of our food – including fruits, veggies, nuts, and spices – is created with the help of pollinators?

Check out this TurfMutt infographic for tips on how you can support pollinators in your own backyard.

You can help pollinators in your own backyard and community spaces. Here’s how:

  • Plant a healthy mix of grasses, garden flowers, shrubs, and trees.
  • Select flowering plants that thrive in your yard’s conditions. Take into account your climate zone, soil type, sun/shade ratio, and average rainfall.
  • Remember that insects need water, as well as pollen. Place a shallow basin of water with some rocks or gravel that they can land on to quench their thirst.
