How much oxygen do lawns produce?

There are many benefits of natural grass lawns, and The Lawn Institute has just released some stats that show just how much oxygen our yards produce in the US and Canada.

Turns out that in the US, one 5,000 square foot grass lawn can produce enough oxygen each day to support 14-34 people depending on location. In Los Angeles, for instance, the average lawn produces enough oxygen to support 28 people, while that number is 34 in Dallas and 29 in Raleigh.

In Canada, the same sized lawn can support 21-24 people with its oxygen production. The number is 23 in Vancouver and 21 in both Toronto and Qubec.

University faculty at an internationally recognized plant physiology research program gathered weather data such as temperature and solar radiation from local weather resources and combined it with an understanding of growth in plants to determine how many people per day

lawns can support through fresh oxygen production.
