Love your parks and they’ll give back to you, says the TurfMutt Foundation. But what exactly can you do?
How large is your town’s park system? Do they offer picnic areas? Trails to walk with your family or pets? Exercise stations? You may be surprised what your local park network has to offer.

Get your family and/or friends involved in planning your next social gathering in a nearby park. Host a picnic or game day.

A park or trail setting is perfect for you and your friends or family to have some fun identifying local birds, butterflies and other wildlife as well as plants, trees, shrubs and flowering plants unique to your area.

Hold holding kids’ study sessions in the grass, host nature-based scavenger hunts, or incorporate TurfMutt’s hands-on, youth education lessons (most are designed to be taught outdoors). Download TurfMutt’s free, STEM-based lesson plans here.

Many parks have natural turf playing fields where you can workout, play baseball, tennis, pickleball, golf and more. Some even have exercise equipment available for free.

Mutt Mulligan’s quarterly e-newsletter is loaded with tips on outdoor living, enjoying green spaces and resources for teachers and families, as well as news from the TurfMutt Foundation.
