June Mutt of the Month: Gracie Lou

The Weaver family from Virginia knew they wanted to adopt a rescue dog eventually. They went to Mulligan’s Mutt Madness 2021 and met a hound dog mix who was their perfect match. They named her Gracie Lou after Sandra Bullock’s quirky character in the movie Miss Congeniality.

“My wife went on the Kentucky Humane Society (KHS) website the day before Mutt Madness looking at all the adoptable dogs,” says Lloyd. “We wanted a younger dog of a smaller mix to play with our kids.”

Lloyd set an alarm on his phone so they could be at Mutt Madness right when it started. They didn't see any dogs that caught their eye right away, but then they heard some young dogs barking around the corner and saw Gracie and her litter mates.

“Gracie was the only female, which is what we wanted, so that made the decision easy,” Lloyd remembers. The Weavers drove home and rolled in late at night when their boys were still asleep.

“The next morning, there were lots of giggles and laughs,” Lloyd remembers about introducing the boys to their new puppy. “It was fun stuff!”
