The many benefits of green space – whether in an urban, suburban or rural environment – have long been touted by the TurfMutt Foundation. In fact, we keep a tally of the latest research in our International Backyarding Fact Book.

A new research study indicates that living near green space could mitigate a certain type of breast cancer – that which is linked to air pollution. The study utilized UK Biobank data from over 155,000 women to examine how air pollution interacts with greenness in relation to postmenopausal breast cancer cases. They found a higher concentration of greenness decreased the air pollution in an area, thus reducing the incidents of this type of breast cancer.
