We've always known our pets bring joy and companionship, but what if they're also protecting our brains? A new study suggests that having a dog or cat might be one of the best ways to keep your mind sharp as you age.

The study analyzed 18 years of data on adults over 50 and found a "slower decline in multiple cognitive domains" for dog and cat owners. Researchers believe this could be due to the increased physical activity and social interaction that often comes with pet ownership, which are known to support brain health.
Unfortunately for other kinds of pet lovers, fish and bird ownership showed no such benefits.
