A new survey from Texas A&M University’s School of Public Health suggests most Americans are not getting outside enough to experience the physical and mental health benefits of green space. The scientists argue that just 10 minutes a day can make a big difference.

The American Nature & Health Survey, which received responses from more than 3,000 Americans, indicates that time in nature has declined steadily since 2016. Launched by REI Co-op and the Nature and Health Alliance (NHA), the survey also highlights an opportunity for healthcare providers to tap into the power of green space. Survey responses indicate that only 20% of people have been told by a doctor to spend more time in nature, but 83% said they would spend more time outside if their doctor recommended it.

Remember, nature starts right outside your back door in your own backyard and neighborhood parks.
